SATELLITE IMAGERY

One of the most valuable tools I used in planning my Virgin Islands vacation was Google Earth. If you don't already have this remarkable tool installed on your computer, then you should get it immediately - it's free, so the price is right, and even if you're not planning on actually going anywhere, it's a fascinating and highly detailed look at our planet. When I first began planning my trip, the imagery that Google Earth had available for St. Thomas and St. John was somewhat old and less than optimal. However, I kept going back to review the areas that I planned on visiting, and at some point during that process they had uploaded new imagery to their database, from the U.S. Geological Survey satellites which are constantly circling the Earth. The dim cloud-covered images I first saw when I began my planning were replaced with crystal clear and mostly cloudless images, at resolutions fine enough to see individual people on the beaches. Presented here are a series of images to which I have added identifying text to show you where I visited. North is directly towards the top of your screen in all the images.
